Vacuum Arc Remelting Furnaces

Vacuum arc remelting (VAR) furnaces are designed for producing high-quality ingots of steel and alloys, also of reactive and refractory metals.
The VAR process consists of remelting of the consumable electrode by the electric arc into the ingot in the water-cooled mold at the pressure of 0.06-0.6 Pa.
Due to the directed solidification, action of high temperature and vacuum treatment metal of VAR ingots features a low content of non-metallic inclusions, harmful admixtures and gases. The results of the above are the high service properties of metal, intended as a rule for heavy-duty items in different branches of industry.
The power supply of VAR furnaces are carried out from d.c. thyristor converters.
The automatic control system provides a reproduction of the preset magnitudes of arc length and weight melting rate. For visual control of the process an up-to-date TV system is used.
